Kampala Slum Mobile Cinema

Volunteer with the Kampala Slum Mobile Cinema Outreach

Join us in bringing cinema, culture, and community empowerment to underserved areas in Uganda! The Kampala Slum Mobile Cinema Outreach is more than just a film festival—it’s a transformative project that uses the power of film and dialogue to educate, inspire, and uplift marginalized communities. By volunteering with us, you’ll have the unique opportunity to engage directly with local communities, create meaningful change, and be part of a dedicated team passionate about human rights, social justice, and cultural exchange.

Why Volunteer with Us?

As a volunteer, you’ll play an essential role in helping us realize our mission. Each week throughout November 2024, we’ll be organizing open-air film screenings in slum communities across Entebbe and Kampala, offering discussions, children’s activities, and guest speaker events aimed at fostering dialogue and promoting human rights. This is your chance to contribute to an inclusive festival that brings enrichment and advocacy opportunities to over 5,000 attendees.

Volunteer Opportunities

Whether you’re passionate about film, community engagement, or just eager to make a difference, there’s a role for everyone! Here’s how you can help:

  • Event Setup & Logistics
Help prepare our Mobile Cinema Van and the outdoor screening areas for the festival. This involves setting up projection equipment, sound systems, seating, and making sure everything is ready for an impactful experience.

  • Audience Engagement & Facilitation
Join our team in welcoming attendees, distributing materials, and encouraging participation during the screenings. Volunteers are key to creating a warm, inviting atmosphere that fosters open discussion and inclusivity.

  • Children’s Section Support
Assist in our Children’s Section, where young attendees can enjoy games, art activities, a mobile library, and talent-nurturing workshops. Volunteers are needed to supervise activities, encourage creativity, and ensure the children feel supported and engaged.

  • Discussion Facilitation
If you have a background in human rights, social work, or facilitation, help lead post-screening discussions, encouraging audiences to reflect on the themes presented. Volunteers with these skills can help spark important conversations and guide respectful, impactful dialogue.

  • Guest Speaker Coordination
Assist in coordinating guest speakers, ensuring they are prepared and supported for their presentations. You may be involved in preparing speaking areas, managing Q&A sessions, and helping with any materials they may need.

  • Media & Social Media Coverage
Capture the essence of the festival through photography, videography, or social media. Volunteers with media skills can help document the event and share our impact with the broader community, inspiring others to get involved.
